Returning Home
Windsor High School alums are the first to enter the school’s auditorium. Looking around, they remember their own high school years and feel nostalgic. Although they graduated not too long ago, Windsor High reminds them of their teenage years, making the moment bittersweet. Today, Windsor High School is welcoming back Mia Fitzsimmons, Kaycie Brown, Dumebi Ojei, Wareesha Khan, Sydney Thomas, Shanique Hill, Miles Jeffers, Isabelle Elam, and Lilly Yohe. As current students fill the auditorium and take their seats, the alums get up on stage and get ready to answer questions prepared by students and staff.
What Happens After School?
The audience's questions range from universal curiosities to pressing concerns.
“What is it like to live with a roommate?” The question gets mixed replies. Windsor High graduates share some of their college stories with smiles, urging Windsor seniors to ensure a roommate agreement is in place. A question about ROTC participation is answered by Dumebi, who responds with confidence and pride in the decision to join the Reserve Officers' Training Corps. All alumni made sure to remind seniors to get to their classes on time and use the resources provided on campus.
Sydney Thomas gets several questions about her experience as a student-athlete. She shares with the audience that she practices twice a day and wakes up at 6:00 AM, yet she highlights that even for a college-level athlete, education always comes first: “If you have a practice, but you need to go to a tutor, go to a tutor. If you have a practice, but you have to study, you should study. Our coaches do not allow our grades to drop below a C.”
A Nugget of Wisdom
Throughout the panel, students hear three thoughts that are repeated often: You have to be on time for your classes. You have to be independent. You have to put yourself out there and socialize. All of the alums, however, agree that college life is great, even when they do feel homesick. No matter where they are, Windsor High School alums stay committed, courageous, caring, and creative.
