The Connecticut Legislature has adjusted the birthdate cutoff for kindergarten enrollment. Starting with the 2024-2025 school year, children must turn 5 on or before September 1 to be eligible for kindergarten. Previously, the cutoff date was January 1. A child who does not meet the cutoff may still be admitted to kindergarten pursuant to Public Act 23-208 upon (1) a written request from the parent or guardian and (2) an assessment completed by the school that determines admitting the child to kindergarten would be developmentally appropriate.

Determining developmentally appropriate skills and behaviors for kindergarten is a complex process. As we look ahead to the 2026-2027 school year, families wishing to register a child who turns 5 after September 1, 2026, can do so by completing the online waiver request.

  • If your child turns 5 on or before September 1, 2026, you DO NOT need to complete this form.

  • Once you complete the waiver, your school principal will contact you to schedule your child’s assessment. Assessments will be held monthly, starting January 2026 through August 2026.

If your family needs food assistance due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, please get in touch with your child's school. Through the Office of Family & Community Partnerships (OFCP), mini food banks were established in every school to provide short-term support for families in need.

Please note that there are no changes to student meal benefits as a result of the State SNAP benefit shutdown. Students will continue to receive school meals as usual, and current meal benefits will remain in place through the normal 30-day rollover period into the next school year.

We are also partnering with Weekend Wheels, a local program that provides additional food assistance to Windsor families. You may request their support directly by calling Windsor Social Services at 860.285.1839 or by visiting LP Wilson Community Center. Additionally, you may contact the Family Resource Coordinator at your child's school.

For additional local resources, please visit the Town of Windsor SNAP & Food Resources page or contact the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank.

As always, Windsor Public Schools remains committed to supporting our students and families. Together, we can make sure every child has what they need to thrive.

Set your clocks back this sunday. Make sure your kid is dressed warmly for the winter!

Dear Windsor Families,

We are aware that the ongoing federal government shutdown may impact access to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits beyond October 31, 2025. We know this may create challenges for some families, and we want you to know that Windsor Public Schools is here to support you. We would like to reassure all families that there are no changes to student meal benefits as a result of the recent State SNAP benefit shutdown. All current meal benefits will remain unchanged. Students will continue to receive their school meals as usual, and eligibility for meal benefits will also continue through the normal 30-day rollover period into the next school year.

We want to emphasize that students’ access to school meals will not be affected in any way. If you have any questions, please contact the Windsor Public Schools Food Service Department.

Through the Office of Family & Community Partnerships (OFCP), we are setting up mini food banks in every school to support families who may need short-term food assistance during this time. We are asking if you can donate non-perishable food items, particularly those that our students are most likely to eat, such as:

-Cereal
-Peanut butter and jelly
-Granola bars
-Mac & cheese
-Pasta
-Canned fruit or vegetables
-Rice
-etc.

Please make sure to check expiration dates before donating.

Collection & Drop-Off:

-Elementary & Middle Schools: Family Resource Coordinators (FRCs) in each building will collect items from the front office and store them in their rooms.
-Windsor High School: Please bring donated items directly to the main office.

Please reach out to your school’s Family Resource Coordinator (FRC) or main office if your family could benefit from this support. For additional local resources, visit the town of Windsor SNAP & Food Resources! or contact the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank for more information.

As always, we remain committed to caring for our Windsor students and families. Together, we’ll get through this.

Windsor Public School Commemorates Elijah-Jay Mariano Rivera with 2nd Annual EKGs for Eli.

Elijah, fondly known as ‘Big Texas’, tragically passed away on October 10th, 2023, from a sudden cardiac arrest during a football practice.

Last year, in Elijah’s memory, a new initiative called “EKGs for Elijah" was launched. We had a great turnout and are hoping to have an even better one this year.

The 2nd Annual EKGs for Eli is a free heart screening event. It is open to any elementary, middle, and high school student. The event is held in partnership with ‘In a Heartbeat’ - a non-profit organization that exists to prevent death from sudden cardiac arrest and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). It will take place on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Windsor High School in the Rubber Gym and will begin at 2:30pm.

These free screenings, organized with the support of Elijah’s family, aim to prevent future tragedies by identifying preexisting hidden heart conditions that may go unnoticed. An EKG is a simple test (that does not involve needles) and can identify potential risks, including irregular heart rhythms and other abnormalities, that might otherwise go undiagnosed. By offering these screenings, we aim to raise awareness and give families peace of mind, while ensuring the safety and well-being of our student-athletes.

For more information about EKGs for Elijah or to register for the free screening event, please click here or contact Amy Stavola at astavola@windsorct.org.

Windsor Announces Appointment of Quinn Fleeting as Interim Head Coach

Windsor, CT – July 11, 2025 – Windsor Football is proud to announce the appointment of Quinn Fleeting as the new Interim Head Coach of the Windsor High School Football team, effective immediately. Fleeting brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a winning mindset to the program, as the team looks to build on recent momentum and chart a path toward sustained success.

Fleeting is known for player development, team culture and strategic mindset. “We feel like there are many talented young coaches in our program that can step into this role, and we are thrilled to welcome Fleeting to the family,” said Athletic Director, Christopher Fulton. “He brings the passion, discipline, and strategic vision we need to continue the success of this program.”

In accepting the role, Fleeting shared, “I would like to thank our Superintendent, Athletic Director and Principal for allowing me and this staff to continue to lead these young men. Our main goal will stay the same, and that’s using the game of football to develop our student athletes to become great young men, great sons and positive pillars in their community. Football is the fun part, but preparing our kids for life has always been our culture and that won’t change.”

The Warriors will begin training under Fleeting immediately, with high hopes for a strong upcoming season!
