Sage Park Competes in Their 21st Geographic Bee

Sage Park is one of 10,000 schools across the United States that registered to hold a National Geographic Bee, sponsored by the National Geographic Society.  Our champion, 8th grader Luke Deming, will have the opportunity to compete at the state and national level.

All Sage Park students took the preliminary assessment in December in order to qualify for the Grade Level Round of the Geography Bee held on January 10th in front of an audience of their peers!  16 students from grades 6th, 7th & 8th were selected to compete. The first, second, and third placed champions from each grade level Geo Bee moved forward to represent their grade in the Championship All School Round held on January 15th.

Our Champions were:

  • 1st Place-Luke Deming (8th grade)
  • 2nd Place-Emily Lattimer  (8th Grade)
  • 3rd Place-Sylvia LaPlante  (6th Grade)

The next steps are for Luke to take the qualifying test to see if he moves forward to the state level competition at Central Connecticut State University held in April.

One champion from each state and territory will advance to the National Geographic Bee Championship, which will be held May 20-23 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C
