Statement from the Windsor Board of Education President on the New Superintendent of Schools
The Windsor Board of Education has appointed Dr. Terrell Hill as their next superintendent of schools. The appointment took place on Tuesday, March 9th, bringing to close a comprehensive four-month search.
Dr. Hill, currently serving as the interim superintendent of schools in the district, has been a part of the school community since his return to Windsor in July, 2014. In addition to his role as assistant superintendent over the past seven years, Dr. Hill had served as an assistant principal at Windsor High School from 2002-2009. Along with the leadership work Dr. Hill has done in Windsor, he was also the founder and innovator of the nationally recognized High School, Inc. in Hartford, CT. from 2009-2014.
Dr. Hill completed his doctoral degree in Educational and Policy Leadership at the University of Massachusetts in 2018. In addition, Dr. Hill has multiple advanced degrees in administration from UMass and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Westfield State College.
Under the direction of Dr. Hill’s leadership role within the human resource department, the Windsor Public School system has embraced and enhanced the candidate selection process, expanded recruitment and the retention of staff, reduced cost on a district level while moving the department to a cloud storage operation, and empowered staff by implementing practices targeted to enhance communication and morale throughout the school community.
The Windsor superintendent search attracted twenty-three applicants from nine states. Eight candidates advanced to first round interviews resulting in three finalists. The Windsor Board of Education, which served as the hiring committee, was guided by the school and community voice which was ascertained through numerous focus meetings and a superintendent’s survey.
I am pleased to welcome Dr. Hill as our new superintendent. This is a new chapter that all are eager to begin especially within the grasp of a pandemic. Dr. Hill's career and personal roots in Windsor, mixed with his extensive teaching and administrative experience, is the fit Windsor demanded during the search process. Windsor wishes Dr. Hill all the best.
The Windsor Board of Education worked in partnership with JE Consulting throughout the search.
