In this lab, we answer the question,
“How does the horizontal speed of an object affect how quickly it falls?”

In your group, design an experiment that could answer the question.
Identify your one independent variable, your one dependent variable, and any controls.
Your independent variable must have at least 3 possible states.
Be creative, but please limit yourself to materials in the classroom.
Explain in your Materials section what your “object” will be.
Explain in your Procedure section how you will manipulate “horizontal speed.”
Explain in your Procedure section how you will measure “how quickly it falls.”

Get my approval (I just need to know it’s safe).
Perform your experiment. Gather data with units.
Make a conclusion (that means “answer the question”).

Questions
1. Why was it important to have controls in this experiment? 3 points
2. You’re standing in a field holding a gun straight out in front of you. The moment you fire, you drop a bullet from your free hand. Which will hit the ground first? Why? 3 points
3. A cannon is fired at 40.0 m/s 30 degrees off the horizontal. What’s the horizontal component of its velocity? How long will it take the rocket to fly 100 meters (measured along the ground) from launch? 4 points
