Windsor High School is a
comprehensive high school with a multicultural student
body of approximately 1500 students and a faculty of more
than 130. Approximately
80% of graduates go on to higher education with the
greatest proportion attending a four-year college.
A rich curriculum provides a sound
foundation in the basic skills as well as opportunities
for numerous award-winning classes in art and music.
The school also offers an array of special programs
for gifted and talented students, Advanced Placement, and
University of Connecticut Cooperative courses. The World Languages Department has a very successful exchange
program with students in France and Spain.
The use of technology has been incorporated into
all curriculum areas and there are separate courses in
computer applications. Our
Library Resource Center has approximately 20,000 volumes
and provides access to several online databases for
student and staff research.
Windsor High School also provides an
extensive curriculum related to technology and careers.
A comprehensive School-to-Career program provides a
sequential curriculum that addresses skills in
decision-making and arranges internships and job
shadowing.
The staff of the Career Resource
Center administers and assesses career interest
inventories and assists students with career exploration
and college selection. Extracurricular
activities and sports are an important part of student
life at WHS. More than 900 students play sports.
Windsor has won many championships in basketball,
baseball, and softball. Our school also supports a Unified Sports Program in which students
are paired with other students with significant learning
disabilities. Participants
play in regional tournaments and the Special Olympics.
The Windsor High School renovation
project was completed in the spring of 2003.
Classroom space has been added and the existing
building updated to a new, state-of-the-art facility.
The school has strong ties to the
community, which is demonstrated by our local scholarships
that now total more than $70,000 each year. Every effort
is made to maintain a school atmosphere where students
assume responsibility for their academic achievement and
social/interpersonal growth.
