MAGNET SCHOOLS

Windsor students can enroll in several interdistrict magnet schools that are located in nearby communities, including the following:

The Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts

The Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, located in the Learning Corridor in Hartford, is open to students in grades 9-12.  Students attend the school half time and spend the rest of their day at Windsor High School.  Students must audition for admission to the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts, which offers programs in music, dance, visual arts, film, television, theater production/design and creative writing.

The Greater Hartford Academy of Math and Science

The Greater Hartford Academy of Mathematics and Science, located in the Learning Corridor in Hartford, is open to grade 9-12 students and offers an intense academic program for students with a strong desire to excel in the fields of mathematics, natural sciences and technology.  Students attend the academy for half of the day and spend the remainder of the day at Windsor High School.

Metropolitan Learning Center

The Metropolitan Learning Center, located in Bloomfield, is an international global studies magnet school with an intensive world language and technology component.  Students attend MLC on a full-time basis.  The school began in 1998 with grade 6 and will add a grade each year until 2005, when it will include grades 6-12.

Center for Creative Youth

The Center for Creative Youth offers talented high school students five weeks of intensive summer study on the campus of Wesleyan University.  Classes are offered in ten art disciplines and provide practical experience in a curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, interdisciplinary and multicultural learning, leadership skills and historical context.  Visiting artists, field trips and attendance at performances and exhibits enhance these classes.  Students are admitted to this program through an application process, and the Windsor Board of Education provides partial funding.

REGIONAL VOCATIONAL-TECHNICAL SCHOOLS AND VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE CENTERS

Windsor students can also enroll in Regional Vocational-Technical Schools and Regional Vocational Agriculture Centers located in other communities.  These opportunities include full-time programs at Howell Cheney Regional Vocational-Technical School, in Manchester, and at A.I. Prince Regional Vocational-Technical School in Hartford.  A part-time program in Agriscience and Technology is available to Windsor students at the Glastonbury High School Regional Program in Agriscience and Technology Education.
