Curriculum at Sage Park Middle School
|
All sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students in the Windsor Public Schools attend Sage Park Middle School, which is located near the center of Windsor across the street from Windsor High School. Sage Park provides a challenging program in which all students are required to take language arts, math, science, social studies, art, developmental guidance, music, health, physical education and vocational courses. In sixth and seventh grades, two periods a day are dedicated to reading and English/language arts. Students in grade 7 and 8 have the opportunity to study either French or Spanish. Sage Park also has a unique activity-based curriculum called Technology and People that allows students to explore culinary arts; business and computer applications; technology arts and media; construction technologies and design; and marketing. Students also take art, physical education, health and music, which offers a choice of band, strings, choir or general music. Sage Park is organized into nine academic teams, each team consisting of 110 to 120 students. Students attend their academic classes with their fellow team members, however teams integrate for subjects such as music, technology and physical education. This team organization creates a learning environment that is personalized and supportive, yet also allows students to learn within a larger group. Students are supported in their academic work by a range of student services, including guidance counselors, a school psychologist, school social worker, nurse, speech and language clinician and special education offerings. Extra support in reading and math are also provided to students who need additional work in those areas. |
