Poems

These are the stories that I have found in my various readings. I hope that you enjoy them.

A long time ago their was a king. This kings name was Hrothgar. Hrothgar was a good king and enjoyed feasts and fun. Because of this he had a mighty hall build. The hall was made of strong gold and thatched with that precious metal.  Many men went to Hrothgars halls.  The feasting an joy was continuous. But despite that it was a light in the middle of a dark wilderness and like all things happy it attracted its own destruction.  The monster Grendel who ,hated the sound of feasting, came in the dead of night.

Grendel crept into the hall and killed six men and took their bodies to his home for later. The monster repeated this act until many of the warriors had left. Then hearing of Hrothgars plight Beowulf a mighty warrior arrived at his hall.  That night before Grendel came their was a great feast.

At midnight the monster Grendel came to claim his dinner Beowulf grabbed Grendels arm and tore it off.  That night there was a great feast. Despite the great joy Grendel had a mother. She came and killed the kings best friend.

The next day Beowulf went and confronted her in combat. After a while the king and his attendants  left leaving Beowulf for dead. When Beowulf returned the king rewarded him with many jewels and other such gifts.

In the long and distant past a great problem presented itself to the wise king Solomon.

Two mothers claimed that a baby was theirs. Both women had witnesses claiming that the baby was their child. It seemed impossible to tell whose child it was.

If any of us were given this task we would be at a loss for ideas. Not King Solomon.

The king decided that the baby would be cut in half so the each of the women could have half. Immediately one of the mothers cried that the other could have the child. The king, in response, commanded that  the child be given to that women.

Do you know why?
