Patterns are all around us. They can exist naturally in the world or they can be man-made. Patterns are often found in the study of mathematics.

 

Look at the picture to the left. What is it a picture of? Using mathematical vocabulary, describe the pattern you see (hint: what polygon do you see?)

 

 

1, 4, 7, 10, 13…

The sequence of numbers shown to the left follows a pattern. What number comes next? Explain on your worksheet.

 

 

 

Look at the pattern to the left. This is a more complicated pattern than the others we have seen. What would you say if you had to describe it to someone? Write down a few words you might choose.

 

After looking at these types of patterns, have you developed any strategies that help you to identify and understand what a pattern is? Explain
