Discovering and Understanding Patterns

Do you know what the word attribute means?  The dictionary definition of attribute is: the “quality, property or characteristic of anything”. How do you think that applies to the study of patterns? In terms of patterns, attributes are the actual property that determines the pattern. For instance, in one of our first examples, the series, 1, 4, 7, 10, 13… the attribute of that pattern is the addition of the number 3 to each number in the series to get to the next number (1+3=4, 4+3=7, 7+3=10, 10+3=13, 13+3=16).

Now, you will need to go to a website where you will have an opportunity to solve pattern problems. Click on the picture to the left to go to that website, following the directions shown on your worksheet.

Once you have played the “Attribute Train” game and answered the questions on your worksheet, click on the green arrow to the left to go to the next page of the web quest.
