1. Department members will engage in collaborative,
grade-level discussion groups to identify successful
instructional practices.
2. Department members will attend grade-level
databased decision-making teams to analyze
performance assessment data.
3. Language Arts teachers will implement a writing
workshop model of instruction to engage students in
sustained writing activities.
4. Content area teachers will emphasize writing
process in their respective disciplines.
5. Language Arts/Reading teachers will develop
mini-lessons that are based on their analysis of
student work to address students’ writing needs in
mechanics, grammar, spelling, usage, and writer’s
craft.
6. Content area
teachers will engage in collaborative, grade-level
discussion groups to develop common rubrics to
assess student writing and to clarify writing
expectations to students.
7. Content area teachers will use
research-based strategies to explicitly teach
vocabulary.
8. Content area teachers will utilize students’
