A Day in the Life of an Ice Cube

Dear Families,

During the months of March and April, all fourth grade classes in Windsor will be involved in a collaborative online project with other schools around the world. Grade 4 teachers in Windsor developed the project entitled, A Day in the Life of an Ice Cube. It is based on a scientific experiment that tests the hypothesis that global location and weather affect the amount of time it takes for ice to change physical form and melt into water.

We are posting a call for participation on several educational sites on the Internet in order to collect data during the week of April 30th from other locations. In the past we have received an interesting cross-section of schools to collaborate with us. Participants will use e-mail to send information and data. All district Internet guidelines will be followed including that which indicates that last names and any other personal data about children will not be communicated on the Internet.

We hope that you will ask your child about the project. This is a challenging and exciting project in which students will have the opportunity to work as real scientists, apply the scientific method, and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds on the Internet.

Sincerely,

Windsor Fourth Grade Teachers
