At Clover Street School we provide a comprehensive instructional program
designed to meet academic, emotional, and social needs.
Children are provided with a wide range of experiences,
including working with technology and preparing them to live
and work effectively in a global society. We strive to
improve academics, self-respect, responsibility, discipline,
and strengthening of the school-family-community
partnership.
Parents and staff work closely to develop goals and plan
learning experiences. Through this collaborative process,
students
are involved in some very unique activities such as
cross-grade buddy activities, and many community service
projects. We also enjoy partnerships with local businesses.
One business
partnership is The EVERYBODY WINS Foundation, Inc. Adults
from local businesses read during a "power lunch".
We also have an annual event with Junior
Achievement. The
Parent/Teacher Association is an integral part of the school
and sponsors numerous events for students and staff. Author
visits, cultural and curriculum events, and staff luncheons are
some examples.
Each year we have a school-wide reading event
culminating in an assembly where the principal has to meet a
challenge if the students reach the reading goal. Two years
ago Farmer Minor visited the students and the principal
kissed Daisy the Pig. Last year, Casey Carle, the Bubble Man
did a science presentation for the students and put the
principal in a bubble. We have fun while we are learning.
Other
Clover Street programs include the
Challenge Resource Program
that provides enrichment, "We're Making History" inter-district social studies
program funded by the Connecticut Historical Society
and Student of the Month Programs to honor positive
character traits.
Clover Street also has a Grade Five
Announcers' Club and a student-run school store. The
school arts program offers strings starting in grade 1,
orchestra, chorus and a variety of art projects.
