Hello and Happy Holidays!  I hope everyone has a restful vacation and are ready to plow through the second half of the year.  The school year always seems to fly by once we get back from the Holiday break. 

We have really started to focus on grammar.  We have been learning about punctaution rules for capitalizations.  Students really need to think and use the rules we have learned.  Capital letters should be used for:

• Beginning of sentences
• Names of people, places, events
• Holidays
• Days of the week/Months of the year

In science, we are learning about penguins and then we will move into our next large study, which is plants and seeds.

We are now working very hard with numbers and place value.  The students caught on well to telling time and need to practice it at home as much as possible.  Also, remember, whenever possible, discuss coins and money with your children.

Our January focus for Language Arts is Inferring.  We are using pictures and text to help garner meaning when it is not explicitly told.
