This month in the Library What are Clover Street students focusing on this month in their library classes? March/April 2008: This month, fifth grade students will learn what an AUP is (Acceptable Use Policy) in relation to technology and why it is important to follow one. Online safety is so necessary, and our students need to understand the best practices when it comes to using computers to keep themselves safe. Fifth grade will also learn about evaluating electronic resources for reliable information. Fourth graders are researching the 50 states and will learn to use the encyclopedia along with other reference books, subscription databases and pre-selected websites to find the best information about the people and places in the United States. Third and second grade students are learning about biographies and autobiographies. Both groups will read various biographies and learn important facts about famous individuals. The second graders are going to write their own autobiographies and the third graders will read a biography and create a web of facts about their famous person using Kidspiration. First grade is reading the work of Eric Carle. We will read several of his books and learn about his method of illustrating them. Students will emulate Carle's style of art using tissue paper to create their own characters.
