A socially conscious
group of Windsor
High School students
are organizing a
town-wide event and
invite all residents
to come and help
raise funds and
public awareness for
the charity of their
own choice.
Windsor High
School’s second
annual “Taking
Steps for Every
Cause” will be
held on Saturday,
May 31 between 8
a.m. and 12 noon at
the Jack O’Brien
Stadium’s track on
Sage Park Road. The
event is designed
for walkers and for
runners and will be
held rain or shine.
The event is a major
project of the high
school’s
Honors Medical
Emergencies classes,
and is supervised by
science teacher
Lindsay Tringali.
The public is
invited to assemble
their own teams of
between three to six
people. Team members
will walk or run
together around the
track to complete as
many laps as they
can in a 45-minute
heat. There will be
four heats: 8 a.m.
(for runners); 9
a.m.; 10 a.m.; and
11 a.m. Each team
member will
participate in only
one heat. Team
members who are
under age 14 must be
accompanied by at
least one adult.
Strollers will be
permitted on the
track, but bicycles
will be prohibited.
When
they register, each
team will identify
the charity or
nonprofit
organization that
will receive the
funds from their
participation in
this event. These
charities can
include disease and
health care
organizations,
disaster relief
operations,
children’s and
education
foundations, and
local houses of
worship. During the
weeks leading up to
the event, team
members will collect
donations from
friends and
associates in
support of their
effort. In addition,
the team that
completes the most
laps per heat will
receive a prize.
The students also
plan a variety of
special on-site
activities to add to
the fun, and will
provide water and
refreshments for the
participants.
Windsor residents
are encouraged to
sign up their teams
as soon as possible.
A $30 team
registration fee is
required. To
