WHS Senior Chosen
for 2008 YoungARTS
Week

Windsor
High School senior
and Greater Hartford
Academy of the Arts
student Sasha
Debevec-McKenney
was one of 142
young artists
nationwide selected
to participate in
the 2008 YoungARTS
Week in Miami,
Florida. Students
were chosen for
YoungARTS Week based
on their individual
talents in different
areas of the
performing arts
including music,
writing, dance,
drama, photography,
and visual arts.
During her week in
Miami, for six hours
each day, Sasha and
21 other student
writers worked
alongside
professional
authors, honing
their skills and
perfecting their
writing. All of the
student artists were
mentored by
professionals in the
student’s area of
artistic talent, and
everyone
participated in
nightly theatrical
performances. Sasha
said her all
expense-paid week in
Miami was one of the
best experiences in
her life. She was
truly inspired by
the high level of
talent she was
surrounded by and
she was extremely
grateful for the
experience. “While
the $3,000.00 was
great it did not
compare to the value
of living and
working side-by-side
with professional
artists and the
intensity of student
talent that was
shared.”
Sasha said she would
be happy to find
work in any field
where she could use
her talent in
writing. Upon
graduation Sasha
plans to attend
college and major in
creative writing.
Congratulations
Sasha!
