BOE Appoints Principals for Clover and Poquonock Schools
At its meeting on Thursday May 29, 2008
the Windsor Board of Education appointed principals for
two of its elementary schools. Michelle Williams,
Vice-Principal of John F. Kennedy School in Windsor, CT
was appointed Principal of Clover Street, and Mr.
Robert J. Sullivan was appointed Principal of
Poquonock School.
Ms. Williams has been an elementary
vice-principal in Windsor for three years. Prior to
coming to Windsor, Ms. Williams was an Elementary
Instructional Support Teacher for two years in
Middletown, CT and an elementary classroom teacher for
seven years also in Middletown.
Mr. Sullivan is completing his second
year as an elementary principal in Berlin, CT. Prior to
this position Mr. Sullivan served for one year as the
interim vice principal of Oliver Ellsworth School in
Windsor, CT. He spent six years as an elementary
classroom teacher in Manchester, CT before coming to
Windsor. Mr. Sullivan also worked in banking for a
period of fifteen years before entering teaching.
A committee consisting of teachers,
parents, administrators, the Superintendent and a Board
of Education member interviewed candidates for the
principal positions and recommended finalists to
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Elizabeth Feser. Dr. Feser
selected Ms. Williams and Mr. Sullivan as the candidates
to be forwarded to the Board of Education.
Ms. Williams graduated with a Bachelor of
Arts in Psychology from Eastern CT State University and
a Master of Science Degree in Education from the
University of New Haven. She also holds a sixth-year
certificate in Educational Leadership from the
University of Connecticut. Commenting on Ms. Williams
Dr. Feser said, “She has demonstrated not only expertise
in elementary curriculum and instruction but also the
ability to motivate staff to engage in work leading to
genuine school improvement. She is a leader committed
to quality learning for every child.”
Mr. Sullivan earned a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Politics and Government from Ripon College, a
Master of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and
Curriculum and Instruction from Saint Joseph College and
a sixth-year certificate in Educational Leadership from
the University of Connecticut. “Mr. Sullivan returns to
Windsor with experience as a school leader capable of
creating a learning environment that seeks to affirm
every child while challenging each to perform at high
levels,” stated Dr. Feser.
Both Ms. Williams and Mr.
Sullivan will assume their new positions on or near July
1, 2008. |
